If not it's pretty F'n close, I remember a friend of mine brought it over to mine He had a look like he'd seen God. "Man you gotta check this shit, this shit is gonna change how the game is run" We listened to it back to back to back.

It's in my top 5 for sure.

I agree. At the time that CD just blew everything out of the water. Production was tight, lyrics was bananas. What else could you want?? You knew it was a great album when you and your boys could argue over great songs or just play the whole CD and not skip anything. It also doesn't hurt that some of the greatest producers was on the CD (Large Pro, Primo and Pete Rock).
Nasir Jones most definitely ripped it.

I would have to say that it is surely in the top 3....not sure which is 1, but I would say that my top 5 albums of all time are Nas' Illmatic, Jay-Z Reasonable Doubt, Raekwon Only Built For Cuban Linx,

You sure? Jay could never compare to Nas. And that is what Jay hates most. No matter how much loot he has, he will always be NAS' bitch.

Wow!! Im shaking my head on some of the responses on here. Maybe you should give the criteria for your saying Illmatic being a top album.
I guess when I looked at it I use:

Longevity: CD sounds as fresh as it did when it 1st came out
Lyrics: Yes even though it doesnt matter now with Laffy Taffy and Shoulder Leaning it obviously doesnt
Production: Yeah gimme some bangin tracks as well.
Catalog: The weakest song on the CD cant be filler.

Two words: Ether

On a side note, my boys and I were doing shows and we brought Nas is for an All Ages show back in 97 on the It Was Written tour. Hung out after Drank some Cristal and chatted...He's a real chill cat.
